Our perennial Lupine seeds are a vibrant mix of single-colored, and hybrid, multi-colored floral wands. They are a wonderful pollinator plant attracting bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and birds. Known as nitrogen fixers, Lupine add nutrients to their surrounding plants. Lupine form an extensive root base, and the plant becomes quite large and wide. Lupine grow 30-36" tall, and can quickly overtake the surrounding plants. Be mindful of following the planting instructions to avoid overcrowding.



Planting Lupine Seeds

Lupine thrive in sunny areas, and sandy soil making them perfect for the growing conditions in Central Oregon. They will not grow well in clay soil.
Lupine seeds have a very tough seed coat. When planting in the spring, soak seeds for 24-48 hours, or roughen seeds between two sheets of sandpaper before planting.
Plant Lupine seeds in the late spring after the threat of frost, or in the fall when plants would germinate naturally. This allows the seeds to overwinter which wears down the tough seed coat, and encourages germination the following spring. 
Lupines will actively spread by reseeding when grown in optimal conditions. To prevent reseeding, mow them down, or remove the seed pods before they ripen and turn light brown. 
Plant seeds 3-4' apart, and 1/4" deep in well-drained soil.
